The environmental guide is a package of information concerning how to focus attention on managing environmental risks in construction and maintenance work, reduce land use and environmental impacts and ensure the use of working methods that are safe for the employee and the environment. The guide is intended for Fingrid service providers that perform contract work at transmission line worksites, substations and when building international cross-border connections.
The environmental guide is a package of information concerning how to focus attention on managing environmental risks in construction and maintenance work, reduce land use and environmental impacts and ensure the use of working methods that are safe for the employee and the environment. The guide is intended for Fingrid service providers that perform contract work at transmission line worksites, substations and when building international cross-border connections. The environmental pack presents Fingrid’s minimum requirements for service providers concerning environmental matters, such as designating people responsible for the environment, worksite-specific environmental plans, a description of the risks and preparations for them, and a review of environmental matters in the safety plan. It also provides instructions for handling near miss situations or environmental damage. All accident and dangerous situations are recorded in the electronic NordSafety system.
Among others, the environmental pack includes practical instructions for the following situations:
• what to do in a chemical leak situation
• what to do in a gas leak situation
• storage and transport of fuel, gases and other chemicals
• being prepared for damage• waste management
• working in ground water areas or near waterways.
“Environmental safety is a shared issue and reaching the targets requires an active approach from all of us. The environmental pack contains the environment-related instructions that are most important in our operations in an easy-to-use format. For example, the guides should be available in worksite coffee rooms where they reach as many readers as possible, says Specialist Maija Nurmi from Fingrid.
