New grid connections subject to temporary restrictions on the west coast
The dramatic growth in wind power and the regional concentration on the west coast poses a challenge to the stability of power plants and the power system as a whole.

Enormous wind power projects are being set up in the sea, while industrial-scale solar parks are being built on land. What makes them so compelling now, and how will these projects affect the power system of Finland?
Over the next ten years, Fingrid will execute approximately 180 different substation projects. There will be 45 completely new substations, with a Project Manager responsible for each of them.
Finland survived last winter’s energy challenges thanks to cooperation on many fronts. Operators in the sector are grateful to everyone who saved electricity during critical hours.
The increase in wind power production is putting the power
system to the test. In the future, the grid will need solutions to ensure
stability and more transmission line connections.
When Fingrid executes transmission
line projects, it redeems the right to build transmission lines from private landowners. The company pay compensation in an amount determined by the National Land Survey of Finland.
The names of substations are usually
based on their locations. The important
thing is that the name is unambiguous
and easy to recognise.
The Ukrainian transmission system operator, an observer member of ENTSO-E, has applied for full membership. Meanwhile, Russia is destroying its energy infrastructure.
The transmission connections between Northern and Southern Finland were significantly strengthened in September with the commissioning of Fingrid’s Forest Line transmission link.
Fingrid, Helen Electricity Network, and the City of Helsinki are working closely together, as the need for
electricity transmission in Helsinki is expected to double in the next few years. The upcoming new 400-kilovolt cable link will contribute to the green transition and the realisation of the Western Boulevard City.
